SU Vacancies – isiXhosa Language Facilitator

Job Responsibilities:

  • Presenting isiXhosa language proficiency modules and short courses offered by the Language Centre to students and staff members through face-to-face and blended modes of delivery;
  • Assisting with the development and review of syllabi, course material and assessments informed by innovative and appropriate teaching techniques (including blended learning materials) which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students;
  • Performing administrative tasks relating to isiXhosa language proficiency modules and short courses;
  • Assisting with training and mentoring isiXhosa facilitators working within the Language Centre;
  • Developing isiXhosa terminology for academic purposes;
  • Translating English terminology into isiXhosa for academic purposes;
  • Assisting with internal translations from English to isiXhosa as requested;
  • Assisting with context-specific research to inform best practice in the field of second-language teaching and/or terminology development.

Job Requirements:

  • An appropriate honours degree in second-language acquisition or other, related fields;
  • At least two years’ teaching experience in the higher education environment, specifically in second-language acquisition;
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment protocols;
  • Experience in translation from English to isiXhosa;
  • Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to work in a complex academic environment;
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook);
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in isiXhosa;
  • Good understanding of spoken and written English.
  • Experience in blended learning and developing e-learning material;
  • Commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students;
  • A commitment to continuous professional development;
  • Proven time management skills and the ability to work according to strict deadlines;
  • Knowledge of the University’s learning management system (Moodle);
  • Evidence of accredited publications in second-language acquisition and/or related fields.
  • Ervaring in gemengde leer en die ontwikkeling van e-leermateriaal;
