Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing, implementing, managing, and monitoring communication strategies, ensuring that MBHG’s various stakeholders are appropriately reflected, and that their policies are adhered to;
  • Maintaining the MBHG, CTR and CBTBR website(s) across selected host platforms in collaboration with the institutional corporate communications office;
  • Providing technical support for MBHG subsites;
  • Maintaining the MBHG blog;
  • Overseeing the strategic use of media and publications (electronic and print) to promote MBHG externally and internally;
  • Representing the organisation and/or support media engagement when necessary;
  • Monitoring the public profile of the organisation and key issues;
  • Liaising with partners and stakeholders in academia, civil society and government when needed.
  • Managing social media across all official platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn);
  • Ensuring that an effective marketing strategy is implemented and sustained to promote brand visual identity, promoting content engagement, as well as facilitating wider reach across stakeholder groups and growth in audience across all official platforms;
  • Managing the provision of strategic communications support to projects, on community and broader stakeholder levels;
  • Overseeing the marketing and communication of the student recruitment strategy for high school and undergraduate scholars to the STEM field;
  • Coordinating and/or assisting teams with organising and marketing science communication, public awareness, community engagement and social impact events.
  • Developing strategies for monitoring and evaluation of social impact projects for project improvement and reporting purposes;
  • Ensuring that evidence-based community engagement activities and the appropriate monitoring and evaluation framework are implemented;
  • Administering and managing grants application processes linked to the call for social impact and community engagement proposals;

Job Requirements:

  • At least a Master’s level qualification in Biomedical Sciences or a related field;
  • At least three years’ experience in a science communication field;
  • A proven track record in obtaining science engagement grants;
  • Accredited science communication training;
  • Accredited qualitative research training;
  • Grant financial management skills;
  • Demonstrable experience and evidence of strong scientific writing skills in a healthcare or research environment;
  • Demonstrable project management, organisational and time management skills;
  • Advanced computer literacy and experience with the SharePoint, WordPress and REDCap platforms);
  • Presentation, networking, as well as good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Continuance of science communication skills via regular attendance of conferences and/or related workshops;
  • Background in infectious diseases, specifically tuberculosis;
  • Willingness and availability to travel for out of office meetings;
  • A valid driver’s license.
