Job Description:
This position performs highly-specialized review and evaluation of incoming cybersecurity information to determine its usefulness and potential impact to AAA Information Security.
A Cybersecurity Threat Analyst profiles adversary activity and monitors open source threat research to detect and expel intrusions from AAA networks. This position serves as a key member of AAA’s HUNT team and provide necessary insights to optimize our detection operations, tools, and tradecraft.
The Threat Analyst maintains up-to-the-minute situational awareness on what malicious actors are using and targeting and develop techniques and program custom tools to detect local changes, identify suspect interactions, and watch for and respond to what the malicious actors are doing.
This Team Member will understand the attackers’ motivation, language, organization, and social behaviors, and group the threat actors logically to create effective “cyber” profiles of groups, actors, and campaigns, thereby helping AAA (Mountain West Group) become more proactive in our security posture and defense.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct practical research on threats using all available intelligence to maintain up-to-the-minute situational awareness on what malicious actors are using and targeting.
- Monitor a myriad of threat intelligence feeds: Twitter, blogs, YouTube, ISACs and more.
- Provide accurate and insight-driven analysis on emergent cyber activity/threats and assess what threats are most relevant to AAA based on your knowledge of our assets and environment.
- Supply actionable recommendations or suggested mitigations to the IT Infrastructure and other teams within AAA to implement timely countermeasures or other preventative measures.
- Publish high-quality research to gain credibility within the security research community.
Job Requirements:
- Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills – ability to de-construct problems, figure out how things work, and propose countermeasures.
- Must be fanatical about performing open security research.
- Must consume large amounts of research quickly on a 24/7/365 basis.
- Must synthesize ideas into relevant and actionable HUNT activities.
- Must excel at verbal and written communications.
- Exceptional aptitude, attitude, and work ethic.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Cyber Security.
- Advanced degree, experience and/or training preferred.
- Bonus if you write scripts or studied Computer Science (or Physics).
- Bonus if you have experience as Domain Admin, Forensics Analyst, or Network Engineer.
- Prior experience as a US Cyber Intelligence Analyst is a plus.
