Job Description:

You will create wire EDM programs, setup and run wire EDM machines to cut our new product development and production parts (short run) as needed. The parts we make require high precision, very tight tolerance features and are produced using proprietary processes made from various metals. You will also develop and refine EDM technologies/processes to support in-house manufacturing.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Program, setup and run, EDM machines and produce contacts to support new product development, short run orders and production order contacts that often require profile tolerances approaching .0005” total.
  • Create, refine, and update EDM programs for contacts using post processor and macro programs developed for each individual EDM process. Save and manage storage of EDM programs for reuse on future orders.
  • Develop, manage and store needed machine/equipment settings when addressing new contacts and to provide the best information possible for repeat or similar contacts in order to minimize the amount of extra set-up/development time associated with these activities.
  • Load and unload contact blanks into EDM fixtures used to EDM Johnstech contacts.
  • Manage or perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) activities and repairs, and to monitor and manage the EDM equipment and always keep in good working order.
  • Analyze, repair issues and interface with vendors or manufacturing manager to resolve machine problems.
  • Track and keep supplies and materials (wire, guides, inspection gages, etc) on hand to perform functions. Order perishable and non-perishable supplies as needed.
  • Support and/or work as needed in Manufacturing, QA, and Assembly as needed.
  • Train less experienced technicians.
  • Tumble and deburr finished contacts using blasting and tumbling machines – as needed.
  • Inspect contacts using appropriate manufacturing and inspection techniques to assure parts meet all drawing requirements. Work with Quality to have optical vision system programs created. Use vision systems to self-inspect completed contacts.
  • Assist in developing new EDM techniques, processes, methods, parts, and equipment to improve our competitiveness and new product development.

Job Requirements:

  • 2-year Vo-Tech education in machine shop, CNC machining or equivalent machine shop experience
  • 2+ years Wire EDM experience
  • Ability to do close tolerance work, read and comprehend part drawings, and to inspect his/her own work using both computer controlled and hand tool inspection equipment.
  • Good machining methods and techniques knowledge with skills in short run production
  • Programming software experience using macros and machine program creation and editing skills
  • Motivated, cooperative, responsible, flexible and open to feedback
  • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work OT and, at times, weekends at times.
