Job Description:

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Security, the Security Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of the Academy Museum’s employees, visitors, and property. You will be assigned to patrol a designated area, respond to safety and security threats, and establish a security presence. You will have a regular or special post; assignments may change daily and in short notice.

Job Responsibilities:

• Respond to and report suspicious activities, security breaches, hazards, and emergency situations.
• Patrol assigned areas on foot, conduct security tours assisted by electronic device as assigned to ensure personnel, visitors, building, and exhibitions security.
• Greet visitors, give information, direction, and other assistance to provide a positive visitor experience.
• Ensure that all business appointments are verified and that staff members are contacted upon arrival of guests.
• Assist visitors and staff in the event of an emergency to safely evacuate from the building.
• Prepare routine, standardized reports and notifications to security management.
• Maintain high visibility while on assignment.
• Participate in daily roll call and training.
• Exhibit courteousness and respectfulness while on duty.

Job Requirements:

• A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
• A guard card or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
• 1+ years of related experience as a security officer (preferably in a museum, public performance venue, or similar setting).
• Familiarity with evacuation building and emergency response.
• Experience working in a business or employee entrance lobby.
• Experience issuing staff or visitor ID badges and maintaining a daily accountability log.

• Flexibility to work a variable schedule to include weekends and holidays.
• Stand for long periods of time (up to 6 hours per shift).
