When you join us as a Senior Buyer, you’ll execute the sourcing, selection and selling strategy to deliver the category shared aims. This is a great role for anyone with an interest in international trade, and who wants to take on the challenges that our new trading environment represents such as Brexit and the recent COVID-19 pandemic. The role may include some travel between our sites, and Foreign travel in line with business needs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Create and implement a customer driven strategic vision for ranges in line with the category strategy agreed with the senior stakeholders with clearly defined and measurable initiatives
- To liaise and negotiate with global suppliers and sourcing offices to identify the most cost-effective suppliers and to support overseas teams with own label product development
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, price positioning and stock availability and work cross-functionally to react appropriately to maximise sales, profitability and market share
- Ensure team activity is legal and compliant, and that all team members are trained to understand their obligations under competition law and ethical training
- Support the implementation of NPD (New Product Development) and liaise with the Product Technologist/Developer in setting the quality criteria for products, ensuring the optimal balance between quality and price is maintained
- Negotiate optimum product cost with suppliers
Job Requirements:
- Strong commercial awareness and previous buying experience within food/grocery
- Produce experience is useful but not essential
- Experienced in guiding and developing a team to meet shared goals
- Effective communicator, presenter, and team player with an ability to influence and engage at all levels to deliver on strategy
- Experience in guiding complex negotiations
- A knowledge and understanding of Legal requirements; competition law, anti-bribery and corruption and Intellectual Property
- Ability to analyse complex data from multiple sources to drive decisions, strategies, market trends and opportunities, at pace
