Job Description:
To produce and deliver high quality programmes in line with SABC News’ public mandate obligations, and in accordance with the News division’s strategy and objectives
Job Responsibilities:
- Identify news and current affairs stories and determine required treatment based on strength, quality, breadth, depth, and newsworthiness.
- Produce and broadcast news and currents affairs material that is incisive, compelling, accurate and fair in line with SABC News editorial principles and public mandate objectives.
- Identify content that is appealing and relevant for the youth market.
- Conduct field, archive, and other essential research.
- Identify appropriate voices for the story and organize interviews accordingly.
- Storyboard news and current affairs story concepts and ensure balance in the treatment.
- Write business proposal for approval as required.
- Arrange audio-visual recording and processing support and ensure that the final mix process is carried out accordingly.
- Adhere to delivery deadlines.
- Brainstorm and discuss story ideas, angles and sources with the executive producer and team members.
- Use multi-media platforms to promote programmes and inserts.
- Deliver all claims and settlement of advances on time and adhere to deadlines as required.
- Ensure that audio-visual and numerical material and interviews are of the highest quality standard.
- Work closely with the video editor to ensure the insert is edited to the highest quality standard.
- Perform post-production tasks required for the completion of the story, including but not limited to, ensuring the transcribing, editing and final mixing of the story, as necessary.
- Record voice-over and other essential elements during final mix.
- Adhere to the SABC’s Editorial Policies, broadcasting legislation and policies
Job Requirements:
- National Diploma (NQF6) or Degree (NQF7) in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies or relevant equivalent qualification.
- 4 years’ proven experience in producing news and current affairs programmes for audio-visual platforms.
- Advanced understanding of public broadcasting principles.
- Written and spoken mother-tongue proficiency in the designated language plus English.
- Exceptionally writing skills for the designated medium.
- Have a good understanding of social media and its usefulness as a journalistic tool.
- Excellent news sense and attention to detail.
- Good and clear broadcast voice.
- Sound understanding of current social, economic, and political trends.
- Good ability to plan, organize and work in a team.
- Willingness to work under pressure, including long and irregular hours.
- Well-developed computer literacy and understanding of news and current affairs processing systems.
