Job Description:

To be responsible for and maintain all the clinical related equipment as per the manufacturer’s specifications and Health Technology Regulations.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the management of all clinical equipment.
  • Maintenance of all clinical related equipment per manufacturer’s specifications and Health Technology Regulations.
  • Planning and executing regular equipment services to comply with manufacturer specifications.
  • Interaction and training of all staff regarding medical equipment.
  • Purchasing and motivating for the purchasing of medical equipment.
  • Interaction with Clinical Equipment Coordinators (CEC’s), Medical Equipment Maintainers (MEM’s) and Clinical Engineering Technician Assistants (CETAs) on technical and financial issues related to clinical equipment.
  • Reporting on clinical equipment to the Clinical Equipment Manager / Technical Services Manager
  • Liaising with medical equipment suppliers to stay informed and trained in latest technological development.
  • Interacting with Hospital Management in the absence of a Clinical Equipment Manager.
  • Professional flexibility in working hours while supporting daily business hours.
  • Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
  • Will interact with internal and external customers through several different means
  • Ensure 24/7 standby for hospital or group of hospital.
  • Willing and be available to work overtime as and when required.
  • Be able to travel between twinned hospitals

Job Requirements:

  • Member of the South African Association of Clinical Engineers (CEASA).
  • Eligible for professional registration as a Technician at the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA);
  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering: Clinical Engineering with two years additional experience and training in the maintenance and management of medical equipment in a Hospital environment
  • A proven track record in the medical field with a minimum 1 year relevant experience
  • Good communication skills and the ability to transfer information through practical interaction with a wide range of staff
  • Familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety- and Health Act regulations advantageous
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions
  • Ability and willingness to be on stand-by and partake in a call-out system
  • Continuous interaction with suppliers and attendance of technology updates are to form an integral part of continuous education and training
  • Computer Literacy
