Job Description:
The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) strives to improve the nation’s health and quality of life by funding and conducting relevant and leading health research. It further aims to promote equity, career development and progression.
The SAMRC’s HIV Prevention Research Unit requires a suitably qualified and experienced Chief Officer: Finance. The Chief Officer: Finance is needed to provide financial and administrative support to the Unit, including Financial Reporting, Financial Analysis, Costing of activities, compilation and monitoring of budgets for the unit. To ensure the unit is compliant with PFMA, SAMRC Policies and funder regulations. The job also involves the managing of working capital between the Clinical sites and head office.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with the Compilation of study budgets
- Verify that expenditure meets the post-award policy
- Prepare the monthly working papers
- Preparing financial journals
- Budget vs expenditure monitoring
- Preparing monthly internal reports and forecasts
- Coordinate and manage the Participant Reimbursement between Clinical sites and Head office
- Petty cash control and Reconciliation
- Preparing budget uploads on the SAMRC Procurement system
- Assist with internal and external audit queries as required by the finance manager.
- Monitor the unit’s inventory
Job Requirements:
- BCom Degree in Accounting or similar relevant qualification or higher
- 5 years’ experience in Finance and Accounting
- Knowledge of and experience in the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Supply Chain Management (SCM)
- Proven track record in financial management, and preparation and monitoring of large amounts of external funding (e.g. NIH, USAID, EDCTP)
- Advanced experience in MS Excel, proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong analytical mind are pre-requisites, as the role requires communication with sponsors and collaborators both locally, nationally and internationally
- Excellent organizational skills
- Problem-solving skills, Analytical Mindset, Solution driven and adaptability to change. Integrity, Trustworthy, hardworking with a positive attitude and Code 08 manual Drivers license as the incumbent will be expected to travel to sites
