Job Description:

This position has a minimum entry age of 16 years old. Candidates younger than 16 will not be able to begin employment until the age of 16.

Due to COVID-19, the component is currently in an expanded telework posture. Therefore, if selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the component’s telework policy.

Job Requirements:

You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess information technology related experience demonstrating each of the four required competencies:

  • Attention to Detail – Reviewing security logs
  • Customer Service – Assisting with IT help inquiries
  • Oral Communication – Providing IT assistance to customers
  • Problem Solving – Evaluating security data logs in order to provide recommendations for enhancement.

In addition to the above requirement you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level performing the following duties: 1. Utilizing process engineering concepts to assist with hardware and software updates to systems; 2. Assisting with network monitoring and incident response;

Applying project management principles to assist in creating new solutions for emerging cyber security threats; 4. Analyzing and evaluating security log data; and 5. Conducting vulnerability scans.

B. Substitution of Education for Experience: You may substitute successful completion of one full year of graduate level education in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

C. Superior Academic Achievement: You may substitute superior academic achievement for the experience required at the GS-07 level. You must have completed the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. The degree must be in the fields described in “B” above.

D. Combining Education and Experience: Appropriate combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience also may be used to meet the total qualification requirements for the GS-07 grade level.
