Gloucestershire County Council Jobs in Stroud – Community Social Worker

Website Gloucestershire County Council

Job Description:

As an experienced social worker working in a specialist role you will provide the vital link between our social care teams and the Early Help Advice, Guidance and Support and Targeted Support teams. You will work with practitioners who are supporting vulnerable children, young people and their families who present with complex needs and where the level of risk is unclear. Based within an Early Help & Targeted Support locality team you will work with the wider Early Help Partnership supporting Gloucestershire’s Early Help Strategy in improving outcomes for children and young people and preventing their needs from escalating unnecessarily.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for supporting a wide range of practitioners within the Early Help & Targeted Support teams and the wider community in relation to identifying and managing risk where complexity exists in order to enable and develop their understanding of their responsibilities around risk management, safeguarding and early help.
  • To be responsible for modelling a high standard of practice and promoting reflective practice and quality within assessments, planning and interventions; including the development of outcome focussed plans.
  • To demonstrate clear decision making and problem solving to ensure effective identification of risk, risk management and planning. This will include assisting managers in areas of risk management and support escalation to social care where necessary.
  • To provide mentoring and consultation to practitioners from across the Early Help Partnership; providing them with a social work perspective on complex cases at strategic points in order to support risk management (including ‘transition’ cases).
  • Maintain a clear focus on ‘the child’s journey’ and ‘permanence’ whilst working with practitioners to ensure that the right services are identified to support children and their families at the right time.
  • At all times ensure that priority is given to the safeguarding of children and young people and that Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • To improve practitioners knowledge around thresholds and levels of intervention as detailed in “Gloucestershire’s Levels of Intervention Guidance – Working Together to Safeguard and Promote the Welfare of Children” whilst promoting the Early Help Agenda and the Graduated Pathway.
  • To ensure timely, up to date and accurate recording in relation to advice and recommendations provided.
  • To act as Practice Educator to Social Work students and apprentices.
  • To provide a culture of continuous professional development within the team; keeping up to date with government guidance, legislation and evidence based practice.
