Job Description:

The Drilling Optimization Engineer will be focused on working with field personnel and the customer to improve key performance indicators (KPI’s); monitoring and analyzing drilling sensor/operations data for their assigned rigs; developing new reports and visualizations; supporting the drilling operations team and driving overall operational excellence and a safe work environment at the rig site. Entry-level candidates will undergo an intensive training program to prepare them to work independently.

The successful candidate will set high standards of performance for themselves and those around them; be professional in written, verbal and personal actions in any situation; seek new knowledge and experiences; have an analytical mindset that utilizes factual data to develop creative and business-oriented solutions; and be self-aware and adjust accordingly to a dynamic environment.

This role performs under general direction of the Drilling Optimization Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Interface directly with all stakeholders, both internally and externally, to act as a central driver for performance optimization initiatives for assigned rigs
  • Track, analyze and manage KPI’s to improve drilling operations and identify areas to enhance performance and improve operations.
  • Analyze large datasets and develop drilling visuals and reports in software tools like Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI etc. to effectively communicate critical information to all stakeholders.
  • Assess processes on the rig site or elsewhere to identify inefficiencies in our current work habits, collaborate with the operations team, senior management, and customers to propose improvements to those processes, and write and execute performance improvement plans to improve key performance indicators.
  • Monitor operations on the rig site to maintain a safe work environment and ensure accountability of performance initiatives.
  • Provide support to field crews to drive optimization initiatives through training, coaching and pre-project planning.
  • Perform root cause analysis for key issues, incidents, equipment failures, etc., develop new processes to alleviate the issue, and work to integrate the improvement into companywide operations.
  • Work directly with the customer at varying levels of their organization, coordinate and align with their own goals and performance initiatives, and respond to requests for data and reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with the development of a company-wide repository of best practices to standardize fleet-wide operations.
  • Assist with developing and improving our rig / equipment monitoring, state detection, and notification systems.
  • Assist with design and development of visualizations, controls applications, customer web portal elements, and other internal initiatives.

  • Excellent verbal and written English Language communication with employees, customers and third parties at all levels
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite and other business systems such as Oracle Outsourcing, Electronic Drilling Recorder, and internal Management System, as well as use of smart phones, laptops, and tablets. Able to learn data analytics tools like Qlik, Tableau, PowerBI and perform data analytics

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 2.50 GPA
  • Eligible to drive Company or personal vehicle for Company purposes including ability to meet requirements of Company’s Vehicle Use
  • Agreement and Driving Policy
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Hands-on programming experience in Python or C#/Java and different databases
  • Experience working in the oilfield service industry
