Job Description:
The Manager of Public Relations and Community Relations is tasked with fielding media inquiries, crisis and issues management, community relations, and representing Belk as the spokesperson to the media and community leaders. The incumbent would serve as a media contact that would ensure that all spokespeople (including C-suite) are equipped with proper messaging and would disseminate information to counter negative publicity and handle issues and crisis communications. This role will lead the Community Relations efforts for Belk, managing a $2 million contributions budget to strengthen our relationships in the community. Build on existing Project Hometown initiative and better position our giving to the community. This position will manage a Lead, Community Relations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as a company lead on issues management and crisis response
- Serve as company lead for Community Relations program
- Create and distribute press releases (and other external communications) as needed
- Develop social media content in partnership with the social media team as needed
- Proactively pitch media
- Serve as Belk representative with community organizations and community leaders
- Assist in internal communications and event management (both internal and external)
- Serve as a primary Belk spokesperson (for both media and community audiences)
- Manage any PR agencies or other external agencies, as appropriate
Job Requirements:
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- 5-8 years’ experience preferred
