Job Description:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing all laboratory analyses, instrument maintenance and calibrations, maintaining consumable inventory and sample retain storage. Internal relationships include frequent contact with Operators, Blender, Shift Superintendents, and Area Superintendents.
Job Responsibilities:
- Completes all required training (CBT’s, FPDE’s and specialized training) within the defined time.
- Obtains samples and performs laboratory analysis on designated products and process streams.
- Performs instrument maintenance and calibrations of testing equipment as needed.
- Distributes and retains samples according to laboratory guidelines.
- Records and reports test results as required.
- Maintains consumable inventory and sample storage inventory.
- Completes fence line monitoring.
Job Requirements:
Qualification & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Biology, Physical Science or technical degree OR a minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience required.
- A minimum 16 hours of college Chemistry or certified lab tester training accreditation preferred.
- Knowledge of ASTM/IP/UOP testing procedures and testing skills required.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment using physical and quantitative wet methods, distillation required.
- Familiar with laboratory information data management systems, Windows, spreadsheet, and Word processing required.
- Good verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment using gas chromatography, ICP, x-ray fluorescence preferred.
- Familiar with chromatography data acquisition programs preferred.
- Quality control preferred.
- Knowledge of refinery unit operations preferred.
