Job Description:
The Safety Coordinator coordinates all aspects of the Safety Program for (entity), including regulatory compliance and injury and illness prevention activities under the direct supervision of the Regional Safety & Environmental Health Director. Safety programs for which the Coordinator is directly responsible include, but are not limited to, the Environment of Care Program, Hazard Surveillance Program, Injury Review Process, Safety Ambassador, SAFE Action Plans, Cal-OSHA compliance activities, and development, analysis and implementation of quarterly reports related to each aspect of the program. The incumbent also provides technical support and follow-up to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow of all safety and environmental health procedures and projects. The incumbent actively works to standardize Safety and Environmental Health-related processes, polices and procedures, quality service measures/indicators and practices.
The Safety Coordinator functions as a liaison between Manager/Supervisor, employees, regulatory agencies and various safety committees and subcommittees. Provides resources and training to managers and employees regarding programs, procedures, and regulatory compliance, safety and prevention, and statistical data related to safety functions. Recommends new techniques and ideas to management and staff designed to streamline procedures and produce cost savings to facility through increased understanding of employee needs and concerns regarding Safety and Environmental Health programs.
Job Requirements:
- A Baccalaureate degree in Occupational Health & Safety related field is preferred or equivalent experience required.
CSP, CHSP, HEM, CPE, and/or CIH is preferred. - 2 years prior experience and a strong background in all aspects of safety administration are required.
- 2 years experience with the development of safety, polices and procedures, performance standards and measures are essential.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated success in project coordination, development, evaluation and monitoring is required. Experience in events planning, teaching and coaching preferred.
- Understanding of OSHA, JCAHO, Title 22 and other state licensing requirements is required. Knowledge of principles, and safety training techniques is required.
- Knowledge of Safety management in implementing work processes, quality and productivity standards, and policies and procedures designed to ensure optimal departmental performance.
- This position requires extensive skills in interpersonal communication and relationships.
- The incumbent must have the ability to exercise significant patience, understanding and empathy when dealing with all contacts and possess the ability to maintain the integrity of confidential information.
- The incumbent must be able to work with diverse health care and administrative professionals at all organizational levels.
- The incumbent must possess excellent problem-solving and customer service skills
