Job Description:
Reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer , the successful candidate will provide objective, valid, reliable and quality news as well as current affairs programmes in line with the organisational mandate and objectives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and drive the implementation of News strategy and programmes that deliver on the organisation’s mandate and objectives.
- Provide Strategic direction to Senior Management Team to provide a cost effective, reliable and sustainable News service.
- Develop and review News Operating Model in line with broader organisational business objectives.
- Provide a cost-effective and timely news and current affairs service to the SABC.
- Establish and maintain effective sound business processes for News Division.
- Ensure the effective integration, utilisation and allocation of all resources in the News Division.
- Provide leadership when schedules should be interrupted i.e. for special broadcasts
- Research and implement relevant global best practice for News and Current affairs.
- Oversee divisional operational expenditure against approved budget and introduce corrective measures to ensure financial discipline and accountability.
- Set guidelines on optimal fund distribution/ allocation in accordance with the organisational budget constraints and strategic/ operational requirements.
- High-level review of all projects to evaluate progress.
- Develop and monitor implementation of internal control measures to ensure good governance.
- Develop, review and implement News policies and good governance to address gaps and promote accountability.
- Instil culture of corporate governance in the division.
- Monitor compliance in line with OHS Act.
- Ensure good cross-functional communication between Executive management Teams i.e. Television, Radio etc.
- Build and maintain an effective, client-focused strategic partnership across the organisation.
- Provide and maintain integrated news and current affairs networking system.
Job Requirements:
- Journalism qualification (NQF6/7) or equivalent plus, Post Graduate business qualification (NQF 8). MA/MBA recommended.
- 10 Years’ experience in News, Current Affairs and International broadcasting of which five years should be on Senior Manager Level
- Financial management and reporting (Budget)
- Strategic management, Business planning and acumen
- Policy, Procedures and PFMA and relevant national treasury regulations
- Procurement management, Risk Management and Financial trends and implications
- Project management
- Understanding of the different stakeholder within the broadcasting industry and applicable legislative frameworks and regulations
