Job Description:

Provide USPS postage sales, shipping and passport services to the USC community and the general public at the USC Postal Service Contract Postal Unit Customer Retail Counters on the USC -Columbia campus, using a retail Point of Sale and USPS RSSBP mailing/shipping system. Entry of mail/parcels in the USC Postal Service computerized tracking system, and deliver to departments and the Student Package Pickup via delivery van and straight box truck. Process official University outbound mail using postage metering equipment and accounting software. Fast paced environment requires ability to multi-task to meet daily mail operational deadlines under stress. Ability to endure extended periods of physical demands associated with sort/delivery/dispatch/processing including heavy lifting up to but not limited to 85 lbs. As a postal representative, maintain pleasant and effective public relations with University community and others.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
  • Bachelor’s degree, or high school diploma and 4 years of work experience in postal, courier or delivery operations.
  • Ability to endure extended periods of physical demands associated with mail sorting, delivery, dispatch and processing, to include heavy lifting up to, but not limited to 85 lbs. Experience and ability to operate delivery vehicle and straight box truck with lift gate for mail and parcel deliveries/collections. A valid SC Driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Four (4) years work experience and knowledge in postal courier, postal delivery and mail processing/shipping operations. Be certified as an U.S.
  • Department of State Passport Acceptance Agent. Have experience in using point of sale systems in retail environment. Knowledge of USPS guidelines and regulations and experience in postal related operations.
  • Above average computer experience, including the ability to utilize the USPS and UPS websites to determine postal rates, and mailing requirements. The ability to learn other software programs associated with USC Postal Services’ daily operations. Ability to obtain and maintain certification as a Passport Agent.
  • Good reading, comprehension and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and others.
  • Attention to detail a must.
  • Ability to operate a delivery vehicle and straight box truck with lift gate for mail and parcel deliveries/collections.
  • Experience in using point of sale systems in retail environment
