Job Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with design agencies, suppliers and internal organizations to assist in resolving design, development, production and acceptance issues
  • Assists in the preparation of product or project definitions, manufacturing drawings and specifications, and test equipment designs
  • Identifies and executes continuous improvement opportunities and defect preventions throughout the life cycle of the product
  • Negotiates budget and schedule changes
  • Develops risk mitigation strategies as a result of the requirements matrix and the available resources within the business
  • Actively manages the supply base and fosters positive relationships with suppliers
  • Responsible for supplier performance and improvement opportunities to ensure timely and quality delivery
  • Regularly assess supply base capacity and addresses sourcing risks through identification and on-boarding of new suppliers and development of existing supplier capabilitie
  • Provides leadership, guidance and technical direction in development, qualification and steady-state production efforts of various purchased components and assemblies for current, emerging and legacy programs at the Kansas City National Security Campus
  • Pro-active in identifying potential complications and resolutions, with regard to product, supplier base and strategic departmental initiatives
  • Uses business knowledge to evaluate and prioritize business opportunities based on economic and technical factors
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment to include machined metals, glass/ceramic sealing, plating, plastics production, GD&T, and/or CMM
  • Ability to apply advanced design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to complex engineering problems
  • Proven ability in decision making and organization, planning and problem solving skills
  • Good people skills; ability to work in and motivate teams to produce on-target and timely results
  • Ability to plan and organize, demonstrate excellent time management and support several projects at once
  • Six-Sigma Green Belt or Lean Certification
  • Existing DOE Q or Top Secret clearance preferred
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Physics preferred

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited Engineering program, or a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from an accredited program.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision making
  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing or quality processes and techniques
  • Ability to review drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness
  • Experience interacting with and presenting to multiple levels of technical stakeholders, customers, vendors and suppliers
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to analyze routine to moderately complex engineering designs and specifications to achieve efficient and reliable manufacturing or acceptance processes.
  • US citizenship in order to obtain and maintain US Department of Energy “Q” level security clearance
