Job Description:
- Strategic mine designs for Business Units.
- To be the Mining Engineering expert and consult to all Business Units.
- Guide Strategic mine design process development and give relevant leadership where needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Compliance, Governance and Assurance
- Monitor alignment of mines with strategic mine plans and exploitation Strategy
- Review compliance of Business Units (BU) with strategic mine planning principles
- Assist in development of controls to ensure governance and legal compliance within Resource Management environment related to resource utilisation and planning for maximum value
- Recognise, understand and manage risks that can impact on outputs of own job and the section
- Functional Excellence
- Maintain functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end- to-end processes, tools, templates etc. and enforce group-wide adherence to these
- Standardise, simplify and speed-up functional processes, eliminate duplication and bureaucracy
- Develop and apply functional best practices, promote sharing of best practices and knowledge
- Drive and execute functional excellence initiatives
- Oversee and monitor functional activities at operations
- Effectively manage matrix reporting
- Identify and manage critical functional risks through appropriate mitigation plans and actions
- Assist in producing best practice exploitation strategies and mine designs for all Business Units
- Assist in maintaining excellence in mining engineering standards across the Group
- Functional Management
- Financial management: Assist with function’s budget. Forecast costs.
- Performance management: Ensure functional strategic plan implemented through disciplined execution processes, track implementation, provide feedback to executive. Coordinate functional/cross-functional activities to ensure strategic alignment. Set and maintain high performance standards. Track and drive functional targets/goals, hold staff responsible for achieving results. Remove obstacles that interfere with performance, handle performance problems
- Continuous improvement and functional change: Identify, advocate for and lead functional improvement and change. Create culture of continuous improvement and change agility in function
Job Requirements:
- BEng Mining Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
- Management Development Programme (Essential/Minimum)
- Mine Managers Certificate of Competence (Recommended/Desirable)
- B Degree Postgraduate (Relevant) (Recommended/Desirable)
- 8-10 years Practical experience from different mining methods, legal appointment over mining operation, experience in mine design and planning. Functional in Life of Mine planning and design software currently used.

- Involvement: Operational
- Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
- Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)
- Engineering Council of SA (PrEng) (Essential/Minimum)
