Job Description:

As a Senior Assistant Designer, you will be working closely with the Womenswear Designer, designing the amazing ASOS DESIGN Formal Jersey ranges for our twenty something customer. If you love fashion design, researching the latest trends and want to be part of a fast-paced fashion forward design team this could be the opportunity for you.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Researching current and future trends through a collection of different sources to identify newness and interpret into first to market pieces, working on long lead time product as well as quick reaction short lead ranges.
  • Working with the technical team on initial fits. Identifying and helping problem solve for the department.
  • Adhering to the critical path to achieve deadlines, ensuring product is developed for the relevant and optimum selling period.
  • Creating artworks for embellishment and embroidery placements.
  • Assisting the designer in creating trend boards, customer profiles, comp shop reports, and preparing range boards using CAD.
  • Assisting with researching, developing, and designing the womenswear formal jersey range, including identifying key shapes for the season, colour, fabric and building a range which offers choice for our global customer base. This will include glam going out product, occasion, formal daywear (e.g. brunch dressing) and workwear.
  • Building relations with suppliers and advising factories on direction, construction, key details, materials, and trims. Working with suppliers and fabric mills to identify and source new fabrics and trims and organising and maintaining a fabric and trim library.
  • Reacting to sales information and design commercially relevant fashion forward ranges.

Job Requirements:

  • The ability to communicate to the team & senior management the performance and strategy of the department.
  • Strong time management.
  • Computer Skills: Photoshop, Adobe, CAD, as well as the ability to hand sketch.
  • Previous experience of working with Far East, European and UK suppliers.
  • Previous experience in designing for an aspirational brand or similar High Street Retailer, with around 2 years experience.
  • Experience of working with a buyer in planning and delivering a balanced range and first to market pieces.
  • An eye for trend and strong commercial handwriting and understanding of the ASOS Brand and Customer.
  • The confidence to identify problems and make improvement suggestions, seeking practical ways to overcome barriers and remaining calm under pressure.
  • A Fashion forward perspective
  • Willingness to Travel in the UK for Supplier meetings and Inspirational purposes. International development travel.
